Should injured skipper Paul Gallen make his way back into the NSW side for Origin II, it will most likely be at the expense of Trent Merrin or Boyd Cordner, according to NSW assistant coach Brad Fittler.

Fittler told SportsFan that Josh Jackson, who came into the side for Gallen, did enough to warrant keeping a spot in the side for Game Two, and would also be able to share the hooking duties with whoever came into the side to replace the Robbie Farah, who faces up to four weeks on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

"Josh Jackson was very good and I also think if Robbie Farah isn't there, Josh Jackson will play as back-up hooker," Fittler said. "I feel he is pretty safe.

"I suppose Trent Merrin and Boyd Cordner are the ones who will be sitting on the fringe and may be a bit nervous (about Gallen's return to the side)."
