Bulldogs forward David Klemmer will miss the first round of the NRL Telstra Premiership after he was found guilty but was successful in downgrading his charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night.

Klemmer was slapped with a grade two dangerous contact charge for a tackle on Kenny Bromwich in his side's 20-0 win over the Melbourne Storm in a trial played at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday.

While he was in danger of missing up to three weeks, the reduced suspension means the NSW Origin prop will be available for Canterbury-Bankstown's trip to Pepper Stadium to face the Panthers in Round 2.

Gold Coast forward Zeb Taia was also cited for a grade one dangerous throw on South Sydney's Greg Inglis, but has avoided suspension with an early plea.
