Broncos great Steve Renouf.

Anthony Milford needs to take his game to the next level and Broncos legend Steve Renouf insists he can so long as he listens and puts into operation valuable advice from assistant coach Kevin Walters.

Ben Hunt said in 2015 that Walters had taught him the art of passing into gaps and the secrets of the famous "out ball" which Walters and Renouf mastered as a duo in the 1990s.

After a two-year absence at Red Hill, Renouf said Walters' return had the potential to unlock those same skills in Milford.

"I think Milford is the lynchpin of this team and Kevvie gets to go one-one with him to take Milf to that next level, and I think that is really needed," Renouf says in this week's NRL Podcast.

"Kevvie is very much an emotional person, but when you listen to him what comes out of his mouth makes sense and you know it is sincere.

"My tip to Milford is to just listen to what he has to say, take it on the paddock and practise it.

"We did our out balls – Kevvie and I and Johnsy [Chris Johns] – but it wasn't just something that happened. Wayne [Bennett] made us practise that a lot at training."

In the podcast, Renouf covers a range of topics including how the Cowboys are building a superpower in the north, the Titans' rebuild under Garth Brennan and the valuable lessons the Broncos of today can learn from the Brisbane side that won the 1998 premiership.
