Players from each of the NRL clubs represented in the inaugural NRL Holden Women’s Premiership were on hand in Sydney today, celebrating one week to go until first round matches are revealed.

The Broncos, Dragons, Roosters and Warriors will field teams in the first year of competition, with matches to be played as double-headers alongside men’s Finals matches.

NRL Senior Manager of the women's elite competition, Tiffany Slater said the excitement and anticipation amongst fans and players alike was growing by the day.

"We've seen some incredible rugby league played across age-groups and abilities throughout this year and in just two weeks, some of the best female athletes across Australia and New Zealand will be on show as part of our first-ever Premiership," Ms Slater said.

"It's a proud moment for all involved – from players to families and fans – and I'd encourage as many people as possible to get to a game live and support these incredible athletes, as they embark on a new era."

Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman, Peter Beattie, joined Ms Slater and players to celebrate the countdown to competition, acknowledging the tireless efforts displayed by many to get to the reality of an NRL Women's Premiership.

"This is another significant moment for our game and for women's rugby league," Mr Beattie said.

"Whilst we look forward to the competition, we also remember the many girls and women who have played the game they love in the past, and who have fought so hard to elevate the game to new levels now.

"I, along with all of my rugby league colleagues, am determined to deliver greater levels of support for women in league, whether playing on the field or in roles off the field, and I wish the clubs competing in 2018 the very best."

Holden's new Chairman and Managing Director, Dave Buttner said Holden was proud to play a role in supporting the growth of women’s rugby league, via naming rights of the competition.

"At Holden, we are focussed on promoting positive role models for girls and women and these outstanding athletes epitomise this in so many ways," Mr Buttner said.

"To be associated with such a turning point in rugby league history is something very special; the future of the game is bright, and I look forward to seeing the competition grow over the coming years."
