The Cronulla Sharks have emerged as a genuine premiership contender and Steve Renouf outlines in theĀ NRL Podcast why they are one of two teams in the top four he believes can win the title.

Renouf still says the Storm are the team to beat but dissects why the Sharks have emerged as contenders to win their second premiership in three seasons.

"It is not that long since they have won [a title] and I like the fact they have this really experienced forward pack," Renouf says.

"I think Paul Gallen still makes a massive difference to them. He is a stabiliser. Shane Flanagan has got them up and with Valentine Holmes running in tries every week they are showing they are in sync right across the park. I see them solidifying coming into this finals series. They can grind out a win and, as a coach, that's what you want."

Renouf discusses all the big issues from the last week in rugby league including why he believes Dylan Napa was fortunate to only be suspended for three weeks, why the Panthers and Dragons can't win the competition and how players should deal with criticism on social media and, in the case of St George Illawarra players, from their own fans.

He also outlines why the Brisbane Broncos are the most likely of all the teams outside the top four to challenge for the premiership.
