Knights leader Buhrer extends contract

Jamie Buhrer has re-signed with the nib Newcastle Knights.

The co-captain has inked a one-year extension which keeps him in the red and blue until at least the end of 2019.

The 28-year-old has found a home at the Knights since joining from Manly in 2017 and relieved to have his future sorted for another season.

"I always wanted to stay at the Knights," Buhrer said.

"Since I arrived at the Club only a few year ago, I've immediately felt at home.

"My family and I absolutely love Newcastle and couldn't imagine leaving.

"I'm confident the Club is headed in the right direction and excited to be part of what I believe will be a very successful future."

The retention of Buhrer provides the Knights with great versatility with the former Sea Eagle able to play backrow, lock, hooker and five-eighth.

Buhrer, who played State of Origin for NSW in 2012, is not only a versatile player but a leader with his retention providing much needed guidance to the young playing group both on and off the field.

Signing announcement: 4.00pm

Knights Player List Manager Troy Pezet said the retention of Buhrer not only strengthens the roster on the field but adds plenty away from it.

"Jamie's versatility is a great asset for the team but his best strength is his leadership," Pezet said.

"He's a great mentor for our younger players. He's someone who helps set the standards at training is great to have in terms of culture.

"We're all very excited that Jamie will be with us in 2019."
