Former rugby league star, Mark Coyne is set to join the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) in February next year.
ARLC Chairman, Peter Beattie said today Coyne's experience as a player and business leader would be invaluable to the Commission.
Coyne will replace Chris Sarra, who has advised the Commission that he will not be seeking re-appointment when his term expires in February.
Mr Beattie said Coyne will bring a wealth of expertise and knowledge to the Commission.
Coyne is currently Chief Executive of EML, a personal injury claims management firm and has more than 30 years experience in the financial services sector in strategic and operational roles.
Whilst building his business experience, Coyne achieved success at the highest level in Rugby League playing for the Dragons, Queensland and Australia.
"In other words, Mark has exactly the type of skills and background that we want on the Commission," Mr Beattie said.
"He knows the game, he has a strong business background and he is a strategic thinker."
Mr Beattie said two other Commissioners, Gary Weiss and Wayne Pearce had indicated they will seek re-election when their terms expire in February. The Commission has indicated it will unanimously support their re-election.
"Wayne's detailed knowledge and experience in the game is invaluable and Gary's business skills are crucial to the investment strategy being developed for the game," he said.
The Commission has also indicated that it will endorse the re-appointment of Mr Beattie as Chairman for a further 12 months. The Chair is elected at the first ARLC meeting after the Annual General Meeting in February.
Mr Beattie said the Commission is working well with the recent addition of Peter V'Landys and Amanda Laing.
"With Mark Coyne joining the Commission, we will be in a great position to make the game even stronger and more successful," he said.
