Former Eels star Jarryd Hayne.

Former Parramatta Eels star Jarryd Hayne's lawyer says he will plead not guilty to charges of aggravated sexual assault inflicting actual bodily harm after the former Eels star fronted court on Monday.

Hayne appeared at Burwood Local Court where his case was adjourned to February 13, when he will not be required to appear.

The allegations stem from an incident in the Hunter Region on September 30, with the NRL Integrity Unit informing NSW Police after being made aware of the situation.

On Monday Hayne's lawyer Richard Pontello said the player maintained his innocence and would be pleading not guilty.

Hayne is on strict bail conditions, including surrendering his passport and staying out of the Newcastle local government area.

The 30-year-old is without an NRL contract after his deal with the Eels expired at the end of the 2018 season.
