Broncos centre Jack Bird.

Jack Bird's season is over after the Broncos confirmed the star centre suffered a ruptured ACL in Friday night's win over Manly.

Bird, who was on the verge of a return to State of Origin with New South Wales after a strong individual start to 2019, has instead had his season cruelled by injury for the second time in as many years.

Last year the 24-year-old played just eight games in his first season at Brisbane due to a sternum injury.

Bird joins Brisbane hooker Andrew McCullough in the casualty ward, following McCullough's MCL injury at training last week. The hooker is expected to return in four to six weeks.
