Ian Thomson is born. Thomson was graded by Balmain in 1974 but played all of his first grade career with Manly, except in 1981 when he returned to the Tigers for one season before returning to the Sea Eagles. He was a prop with the club's 1978 premiership-winning team and also briefly represented NSW and Australia.
Joe Vitanza is born. Vitanza played 91 games from 1984-92 for Penrith, Gold Coast and Cronulla. He was a foundation player with Gold Coast's first team (the Giants) in 1988 and played off the bench in the Panthers' 18-14 grand final loss to Canberra in 1990.
