We deserved to lose and we'll learn lessons: Robinson

It hasn't happened in two months but the Sydney Roosters have lost a NRL game and coach Trent Robinson will make certain they learn a few lessons from the experience.

Not since the second week of March – round one – at the SCG when the Rabbitohs inflicted a 26-16 defeat have the Roosters returned to their dressing rooms and not sung the team song.

Eight straight wins were brought to halt in the 15-10 win by the Broncos in their round 10 duel at Suncorp Stadium.

Just five days ago the Roosters scored 30 points at the same ground beating the Raiders with five tries. But on Friday night it was just 10 – and just one try, to James Tedesco.

"You want your lessons when you win, but we got a lesson for the first time in a couple of months through a loss," Robinson said.

"It was disappointing but we deserved to lose tonight. We didn't deserve to win. So there's a lesson in it for us.

"There's lots of footy left so pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, take our lesson and move on.

"We were out-enthused," Robinson said.

"I thought we dug deep but we couldn't get to an intensity we wanted to. It was a tight one and we just couldn't crack it open.

"I was really proud of the guys but we just needed that little more intensity, that run, that group of players to make one play into two. And we just couldn't get it.

"We were holding on in defence so that's why that try – the barge over (James Segeyaro 69th minute) was really frustrating… such a frustrating try to leak.

"So yes, we got beaten. They were ready to rock and roll… they had intensity.

"If we ran and got seven metres tonight, they got eight."

So often the Roosters have relied on someone like Latrell Mitchell to break the mould and the match wide open. But he was surrounded by defenders whenever he touched the ball and had some uncharacteristic handling errors.

"With lots of guys we just missed that last little bit to make something happen," Robinson said.

Another unusual sight, alongside Mitchell being lassoed so well, was former Test halfback Cooper Cronk being sin-binned in the second minute for a professional foul on Darius Boyd.

It was just the third time Cronk had been banished to the bin in 356 career games.

"I think that's the right call – he should have been sin-binned for that but I can't remember the last time Cooper got sin-binned," Robinson said.

At least the Roosters didn't let in any tries.

"And then we scored during that period. So we organised ourselves well but then they got that nice try to Payne Haas. 

"Then the scoring stopped and it became a finals-type game."

Robinson said both Cordner (concussion) and Daniel Tupou (neck) should be fit to return for the Knights at McDonald Jones Stadium next Saturday.
