Adelaide Oval will host the opening game of the 2020 Holden State of Origin series.

The NRL today announced the series dates for 2020:

  • Game One in Adelaide on Wednesday, June 3, 2020
  • Game Two in Sydney on Sunday, June 21, 2020
  • Game Three in Brisbane on Wednesday, July 8, 2020

ARLC Chairman Peter Beattie today announced the schedule during a visit to Adelaide Oval, alongside South Australian Premier Steven Marshall, as well as Queensland Maroons Coach Kevin Walters.

“State of Origin has been an enormous success in Melbourne and Perth in recent years, and we have no doubt that the opening game of the series next year at Adelaide Oval will be an incredible spectacle,” Mr Beattie said.

“Origin is a wonderful showpiece for the game and this will allow us to share it with an important new market, bringing new fans closer to the game.

“The support of the South Australian Government, as well as the South Australian Tourism Commission, has been fantastic through the process and we all look forward to returning in June next year for what will be an incredible series-opener.

“This year’s series provided us some wonderful entertainment and no doubt next year’s will bring more brilliant feats and incredible storylines.”

South Australian Premier, Steven Marshall said: “Hosting a State of Origin match in 2020 is a major coup for Adelaide and South Australia.  This is the first time this premier sporting event will be played here,” he said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for our state, not only is it expected to generate an economic benefit of over $15 million, but it will showcase our vibrant city to a huge, national and international TV audience. We look forward to welcoming a sell-out crowd of thousands of visitors to the State of Origin on 3 June 2020.”
