Cowboys coach Paul Green believes his side are well placed to attract new players during the off-season should a suitable target become available.
The Cowboys completed a miserable campaign when they fell to a 24-16 loss to the Storm at AAMI Park in Melbourne on Friday night and now have the entire off-season to shape their roster for 2020.
Green said the Cowboys have space in their salary cap to chase new personnel in the coming months and his side will be aggressive in doing so if the right player became available.
"We have got space in the cap which is always a good position to be in," Green said.
"We will see what opportunity comes up, but potentially outside backs is a position we need to get stronger in.

"The good part is if a good player does come on to the market we are in a good position to do something."
Green will be hoping for a bit more luck both on and off the field when the Cowboys move to their new stadium next season and try and return to the finals after a disappointing campaign that never really got going.
The Cowboys sacked star recruit Ben Barba before the season even commenced and were dealt harsh injury blows to Justin O'Neill (spleen), Te Maire Martin (brain bleed) and Michael Morgan (concussion).
And the club was hit hard when retiring legend Matt Scott suffered a mild stroke three weeks ago, robbing him of a fitting farewell.
"There were a number of different things that went against us," Green admitted.

"We lost Justin O'Neill (after just eight games) so having him back regularly will be good.
"Being able to get our best or close to our best team on the park is key to having a successful year."
Green believes there is plenty to look forward to next year and a return to the finals is a good possibility for the 2015 premiers and 2017 runners-up.
"We had a number of things thrown at us this year, so next year is a real good opportunity to reset," he said.
"We go into a new stadium and it is a new start from a lot of perspectives.
"We need to use it to come back and knuckling down and start the season much better next year."
