The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are saddened to hear of the passing of former Chief Medical Officer and Life Member, Hugh Hazard AM.
Hazard served as the club’s Chief Medical Officer from 1975 until 2008 and the National Rugby League from 1998 to 2010.
During his tenure at the Bulldogs, he worked with some of the club’s greatest players, witnessed six premierships as well as changing the landscape of the medical field and was awarded Life Membership to the Football Club in 1995.
Hazard was recognised in the 2015 Queens Birthday Honours for his service to sports medicine as a physician, through contributions to professional medical groups, and to rugby league.
Chief executive Andrew Hill offered the following words on behalf of the Bulldogs on the passing of Hugh Hazard AM:
"The club is saddened at the news of the passing of Hugh Hazard AM. Hugh played such a major part in the history of the Bulldogs and was without doubt one of the most respected professionals to work at the club.
Hugh symbolised everything that the Bulldogs stand for and was admired throughout the game for his contribution he made to the medical field. He made a huge impact on the game from many levels and was loved by the staff and players for his dedication and commitment to the club.
His legacy as a Bulldog and what he did for the club will never be forgotten and our hearts go out to his wife Ann, family and friends at this difficult time.”
Hazard passed away at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer.
