1897

NRL Hall of Fame member Herb Steinohrt is born. Included nine Test matches among his 31 appearances for Australia. One of those was the infamous 1932 ''Battle of Brisbane''. Australia won that match despite a number of players being badly injured.

1993 

North Sydney open their historic tour of South Africa with a 48-6 win over the Capetown Coasters in front of 1200 people. 

2004

New Zealand officials are angered by claims powerhouse winger Lesley Vainikolo would be forced out of the Tri-series after just one Test against Australia because his club side, Bradford, insist that he requires surgery.

2006 

Australia stage a miraculous comeback to beat New Zealand 20-15 in Melbourne. The Kiwis lead 15-8 with eight minutes remaining before Australia score three late tries. Greg Inglis scores two scintillating tries for the home team.

2012

Gavin and Kasey Badger make history when they become the first husband and wife duo to jointly referee an international match. Thailand scored a 80-0 win over the Philippines at Bangkok's Royal Thai Palace Stadium.

2016   

Former NSW and Australian representative Jamal Idris signs with Wests Tigers ending a self-imposed exile of 18 months. He made five NRL appearances during the 2017 season.

2019

Veteran Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall is named captain of New Zealand for end-of-season Tests against Australia and Great Britain, meaning he will break the all-time record for most Tests as Kiwi captain (20) that he shared with former halfback Gary Freeman.

Wayne Bennett is is officially announced as the foundation coach of the Dolphins NRL team after the 71-year-old signs a four-year deal with the club.
