1989

Future Manly and Maroons star Daly Cherry-Evans is born in Redcliffe, Queensland. DCE won a premiership with the Sea Eagles in 2011 and has represented Australia 15 times. At Origin level he has played 15 times for Queensland and in 2020 he captained the Maroons to a stunning series triumph.

1995

Newcastle coach Malcolm Reilly fines two of his own players for high tackles following the club’s Tooheys Challenge loss to Brisbane. Tackles by five-eighth Andrew Tangata-Toa and prop Steve Crowe are questioned by Broncos coach Wayne Bennett.

1996

Super League announce a seven-tackle rule to keep the ball in play after kicks.

1997

The South Queensland Crushers face a player exodus after officials reveal the club will withhold match payments of up to $10,000 until the end of the season.

1998

Peter Moore angrily denies allegations that he resigned as a Canterbury director rather than be sacked and refutes suggestions he helped the Melbourne Storm sign Scott Hill.

2000

Newcastle winger Darren Albert breaks a long-standing club record by scoring four tries in the Knights’ 46-8 defeat of the Wests Tigers.

2001

Referee Tim Mander is dumped to First Division for the third time in four years for his failure to take action against Melbourne front-rower Rodney Howe in the match against the Bulldogs. The two touch judges and video referee are also dumped for missing Howe’s reckless high tackle on Steve Price.

2002

Sharks coach Chris Anderson returns to training just 17 days after undergoing a triple heart bypass.

2003

New NRL referees' boss Robert Finch comes under fire for sacking three video referees and replacing them with full-time whistle-blowers Bill Harrigan, Stephen Clark and Tim Mander.

2005

Former Bulldogs player and director Tim Pickup says the club will almost certainly lose either Willie Mason or Braith Anasta if it re-signs rising star Sonny Bill Williams.

2008

The Warriors suffer a shattering blow when scans reveal fullback Wade McKinnon has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a trial against Newcastle. McKinnon faces a knee reconstruction which is likely to sideline him for the season.

2014

Luckless Melbourne winger Matt Duffie suffers his second successive season-ending injury when he tears his anterior cruciate ligament at training.

2015

Manly announce plans to transfer their round 5 home game against the Canberra Raiders to Albury’s Lavington Sports Ground. It will be the first premiership match to be played at the venue.

2016

Canterbury prop David Klemmer lands in hot water over a “torpedo” style tackle on Melbourne forward Kenny Bromwich. The representative forward is charged with dangerous contact but successfully applies for a downgrade at the judiciary. A two-game suspension is cut to one game.
