Thirty years of stories, celebrations and iconic moments were celebrated last night as the NRL Telstra Premiership 2020 Season was launched in Sydney.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg launched the season alongside the 16 NRL Club representatives, along with other NRL stars and legends.

Among those at the launch were Premiership Captain Boyd Cordner from Sydney Roosters, Melbourne Storm skipper Cameron Smith, Parramatta Eels’ Clint Gutherson, Canberra Raiders’ Jarrod Croker, South Sydney Rabbitohs’ new leader Adam Reynolds and Manly Warringah Sea Eagles’ Daly Cherry-Evans.

The launch, at The Venue at Alexandria, celebrated thirty years of Rugby League since Tina Turner’s Iconic “The Best” campaign in 1990.

Melbourne Storm forward Dale Finucane gave a special performance of “The Best”, while former players Ian Roberts and Mark Hughes as well as NRL Young Person of the Year Holly Summers were also part of the formalities.

Mr Greenberg said there was so much to look forward to in 2020.

“Tonight is a special night,” Mr Greenberg said. “A night of optimism, renewed hope, dreams and aspirations for the year ahead.

“New superstars will be born and a new chapter written in the history books.

“As always rugby league will bring communities and cultures together each and every weekend.

“We will reach out to those who need a hand and entertain the millions who live for our game.

Still making history, still a game for everyone, still simply the best

“Thirty years have passed since Tina Turner launched The Best, but one thing remains the same … rugby league is still - Simply The Best.”

The NRL Telstra Premiership 2020 kicks off in one week – when Parramatta Eels host the Bulldogs at Bankwest Stadium.

The NRL has partnered with the Salvation Army to raise donations for natural disaster relief across Round One of the NRL Telstra Premiership.
