Broncos marquee signing Adam Reynolds returned to the training paddock three weeks early today, as freshly re-signed prop Pat Carrigan hailed a “new chapter” in the club’s history taking shape.
Halfback Reynolds was not due back until mid-December after being grant an extended break in the wake of his run to last season’s Grand Final as captain of the Rabbitohs.
The 31-year-old moved to Brisbane with his family more than a months ago and has been spending time around the Clive Berghofer Centre at Red Hill getting to know his teammates – and the lure of the training paddock finally proved too much today as he joined in a 90-minute session.
Carrigan, fresh from inking his own two-year contract extension to the end of the 2024 season, said: “Reyno is elite – you saw him out there today – some of the tips that he’s giving the young guys and he’s eager for us to be successful.
“He’s spoken about the confidence he has in this group from what he’s seen already and how he thinks we can play.
“Time will tell but I’m super excited to be able to play with him for the years ahead. He’s a class player and a quality person – obviously a big name but also someone who is genuine and who cares about footy and the younger guys as well.
“I see the influence he has already had on the group, in the locker room, the excitement that he brings and he really wants you to encourage that enthusiasm for your football. He just gets it.
I can’t wait to learn from him and play for him and he is going to do wonders for this club. He might already be a favourite with the Broncs fans as well.
Pat Carrigan on Adam Reynolds
Carrigan said he felt great about his decision to stay with the Broncos, having come through the club’s development pathways from an early age.
“(Coach) Kev (Walters) and Alfie and a lot of the guys we have at the Broncos now are a big part of the club’s history and together we are writing a new chapter,” said the 23-year-old Queenslander.
“Kevie has been big on drilling into us that now is our time … and we have to do something with that opportunity.
“You see the quality of the boys we’ve added to the roster in terms of Reyno, Capes, Ryan James and others – it’s really positive signs for the club and I’m really excited and there’ll be plenty of good times here ahead.”
