Despite an injury scare in the trial matches, Martin Taupau is expected to be right for Round 1 and will start in the front row alongside giant prop Taniela Paseka. Haumole Olakau’atu (elbow) and Josh Aloiai (suspension, round four) will miss the start of the year while Josh Schuster (ankle) is also sidelined for up to a month. Ethan Bullemor is likely to take his place in the back row for round one.
