Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett has presented us with Fantasy gold ahead of Round 4, while the king is back in action but might not be an immediate buy.

From the new must-have at CTR, to Nicho Hynes and what to do with Teddy, here are the big calls to consider before the round gets underway.

Crucial Fantasy calls for Round 4

Accept the gift of Connelly the CTR

After impressing through the opening rounds, Connelly Lemuelu has earned a starting spot in the Dolphins' back row, with coach Wayne Bennett shifting Kenny Bromwich to the middle in order to make room.

And with that Lemuelu ($445k) becomes a Fantasy unicorn, as a CTR eligible player who plays in the pack and will score higher and more consistently than most players who actually line up out wide for their team.

He was named to start before Felise Kaufusi copped a four-match suspension at Judiciary this week, and now that's happened his job security has gone from good to great.

Take away his Round 2 score of seven, which coincided with a failed HIA, and Lemuelu has scores of 64 and 43 this year. He's the buy of the week.

Too late to move on Preston?

If you kicked the tyres on impressive Bulldogs rookie Jacob Preston (EDG, $361k) through the opening rounds, there is still time to bring him in and make some money, but it's this week or never.

With a break even of -16, he has plenty of price rises in him yet, and if he averages 40 over the next three round, which current form suggests he should, he stands to jump $150k in value.

While you won't be getting the full benefit, if you don't have more urgent needs in your squad, Preston still shapes as a good buy ahead of Round 4.

Hold off on Hynes

Nicho Hynes is back from a calf injury, and the temptation to bring him straight in is strong, but here's why he's a hold for a few weeks in my view.

His break even this week is 70, and given he won't have played since February's NRL All Stars game, and likely has done little training at high intensity in the past month, it's reasonable to think he may struggle first up and fall short of meeting that target, and his price should drop a bit after Round 4.

What you need to know out of the Round 4 teams announcements

The Sharks also have the bye in Round 6, which means you'll be without your most expensive player that week if you bring him in. The brilliant No.7 is someone you'll probably want in your final 17, but I'd be holding fire until after the bye, when with any luck he'll be a bit cheaper too.

Is Teddy worth sticking with?

There is some logic in the idea of punting James Tedesco while he is out on a bye in Round 4, particularly given his 39.3 point average through the first three rounds is hardly anything to get excited about.

But I'd be holding him if you can, based purely on the draw the Roosters have coming up, which in the next fortnight includes games against an Eels side who are leaking 26.6 points on average so far in 2023 and a Storm outfit not doing too much better when it comes to defence.

There should be opportunities to collect some more dynamic stats in the next couple of weeks for the No.1, who has traditionally got better on the Fantasy front once the few rounds are done and dusted.

Fantasy draft free agent of the week

A poor start to the year, which saw him score just 26 in Round 1, means Luke Garner was punted from plenty of teams early on. But there's real value in any back-rower playing outside Nathan Cleary and Jarome Luai, and in Round 2 he bounced back with an impressive 63 in a 66-minute stint.

Garner has plenty of upside on the scoring front, and now that Penrith have had their bye, he's one less player to worry about in terms of availability.
