St George Illawarra have confirmed the departure of Anthony Griffin as coach, effective immediately, after two and a half years in the role.
The Dragons confirmed the news in a statement on Tuesday morning, following the club suffering a sixth-straight loss in Round 11.
Since arriving at the Dragons in 2021 following previous stints with the Broncos (2011-14) and Panthers (2016-18), Griffin has coached a total of 58 games for the club for 22 wins and 36 defeats, with a winning percentage of 39 percent.
Griffin was signed through at the club until the end of the year after the Dragons elected to take up the option in his contract leading into the 2022 season.
After a strong win over the Dolphins in Round 5, the Dragons haven't won since and following a string of narrow losses were beaten 42-22 by the Cowboys at Queensland Country Bank Stadium last Saturday.
Dragons CEO Ryan Webb thanked Griffin for his contribution to the club over the past two-and-a-half seasons.
"These decisions are never taken lightly and on behalf of the club I want to thank Anthony for all his hard work during his time at the Dragons," Webb said.
"Unfortunately our performances over the first 10 games of this season have not met the club’s expectations so it was decided he should finish up his duties this week."
Dragons assistant coach Ryan Carr will assume interim coaching duties of the NRL side from this week while the club board and management will continue assessing head coaching candidates for the 2024 season.
