The Dolphins are confident they can turn the tide of close losses into a desperately needed victory when they host Melbourne in must-win game for both teams.

After putting in one of the worst ever performances in Round 5 with their 52-18 defeat at the hands of a ‘Fozball’ inspired Manly side, the Dolphins have since pushed the top-of-the-ladder Penrith and Warriors all the way in their last two losses.

Despite them being valiant efforts – going down by a field goal in golden point against the Panthers in Darwin and a two-point loss in Wellington – they still add to their season tally of two wins and five losses.

“(This is a) massive game for us,” star England centre Herbie Farnworth said about the upcoming match.

“Obviously we haven't won for a while now – both teams – and they're a great quality side.

“Got some very classy players there at Storm, so I'm sure they're going to come out firing, but we're going to come for those two points.

“Obviously, when you play footy you want to win and we haven't been winning so far.

“But I feel like we're getting better each week and putting some good (performances), just falling short against some quality sides there.

“Panthers and Warriors, (they are) top of the table and second there, so, just falling short against those two teams and probably not playing our best either game there, so we are showing that they were right up there with them.

“(But) we've got to start getting those two points now.”

Forward Connelly Lemuelu admitted that while the recent run of results had been frustrating, the squad had worked hard to maintain positivity and keeping confident they could turn things around.

“Definitely a bit frustrating, but at the same time, we've got to stay positive with these sort of things,” Lemuelu said.

“They've been the top two teams this year and we've been going right to the end with them and holding our own.

“We've just got to stick together and things will turn.

“(We definitely we have played better than the results), especially these last two weeks, I feel like we've played some pretty consistent footy.

“We've been defending our line pretty well as well and we've come away with two losses … if we just stick at it, we've still got some improvement in us as well, so we've just got to stick together.”

First Take: Dolphins v Storm

While Melbourne come into the game in an unprecedented position of losing six games in a row, the Samoa international said there was no danger of his side taking their opposition lightly.

“We're approaching it as we’ve approached Melbourne any other time, they're a tough team,” Lemuelu said.

“They're obviously in a tough situation right now, so are we, so we'll both be pretty desperate at the minute.

“They're going to come out firing, they've obviously got a point to prove and we're expecting it to be a tough, hard game.

“(There is) a little bit (of pressure), it's always tough to lose four in a row, so definitely a bit of pressure there, but as long as we come to work and have each other's backs, stick with each other, we'll be alright.

“(We have) just got to stop making errors, shooting ourselves in the foot and holding onto the ball.”
