Just six games into his first-grade career, rookie halfback Zane Harrison announced himself as one to watch in the NRL, stepping up to slot the winning field as the Titans upset the Panthers.

Still only 20, Harrison showed remarkable composure to seal the 19-18 win with 13 seconds remaining, showing no sign of nerves as he settle himself to land the decisive blow.

Just a few moments earlier however, he had tried to do the same thing, only to miscue the kick poorly, barely getting the ball off the ground.

“My first one was a proper shank, so I knew I had to nail the second one,” Harrison said.

“I still had confidence that I've done the work and that I'd nail that one.

“It was a good result and it's good to come off like that.”

Overall, it was a breakout performance from the former schoolboys star who started this season playing for his junior club Tweed Seagulls in Queensland’s Hostplus Cup.

As well as the winning field goal, he also chalked up three vital try assists, showing great vision with his passing game.

Zane Harrison wins it for the Titans

“It’s a special moment, but I've done the work of training, I back my skill to ice that moment, so it's good that it came off like that,” Harrison said.

“I'd just say my preparation probably, reps at training … my hard work (helped me get the confidence).

“If you nail your prep at training, then you fall back onto that in tough moments like that.

“I actually wanted (the ball) at the left post, but we got to the right and it's actually a wrong side for a right-foot kicker, but you get put in those situations as a halfback and you need to step up in big moments and ice those things.

“I was always thinking one-pointer when we got in that position and it was just about icing it.”

Blooded in Round 10 by Josh Hannay, Harrison has been impressing his coach with his confidence and composure since making the step up into the NRL.

All Tries – Titans v Panthers

"It is easy for us to say, but we see that kid every day train and prepare with composure,” Hannay said after the match.

"We do opposed sessions against each and everything we have seen from that kid since day one at pre-season is that composure that you saw tonight.

"It is one thing to do it at training, another to do it in front of 20,000 against the Panthers.

"The try assists, the field goal ... I feel funny saying this, but it doesn't surprise us. He is the real deal that kid.

"It is a special night for him.

“That will go in the scrap book for sure but he is going to have a lot of those moments. He's a really measured, smart young person. He wants it. He wants it badly.

“He wants to be really good. He was kicking field goals at training yesterday and preparing for that moment.

“It doesn't just happen. The good ones prepare for those moments."

Harrison said the faith put in him by his coach had helped not only him but his fellow relative newcomers to the top stage, with Hannay debuting a number of young players already this season.

“He's been honest with me and I had conversations with him weekly,” Harrison said.

“He's been really good with us and not just me, all the young boys, the whole team, his communication is outstanding.

“I can't rate him high enough as a coach, so full credit to Josh.”

The Titans to take over Allegiant Stadium

Next up, the Titans will be back at home against the Bulldogs, who similarly had a thrilling one-point win against the Sea Eagles.

“We've had a lot of lessons along the way at the moment, but now it's about focusing ahead for Friday night against the Bulldogs back here in front of our Titans fans,” Harrison said.

“We want to go back-to-back and we want to win games at the end of the day, so we'll get back to training, we'll get back to working hard again and we'll play the Bulldogs and hopefully get the result.”
