Following two successful years supporting communities impacted by significant weather events, national insurance provider Youi and the NRL expanded the Youi Community Scrum program in
2026.
The program brings mental health, resilience and grassroots rugby league initiatives to new communities across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
Across July and August the program engaged more than 1,000 participants through local schools and grassroots rugby league clubs – including Geelong Sharks Rugby League Club, Werribee Bears and Coffs Harbour Comets – helping young people reconnect through sport, strengthen their wellbeing and build resilience.
"We're excited to partner with Youi once again to deliver the Community Scrum program in 2026, an important initiative dedicated to strengthening communities recovering from significant challenges," said former Warriors and Titans star and current NRL State of Mind Program Manager, Clinton Toopi.
"Through programs including State of Mind, GAAME and League Stars Inspire, we're helping young people build resilience, strengthen their wellbeing and stay connected through sport.
"The program also provides much-needed funding and equipment to local schools and rugby league clubs, helping replace damaged or outdated training gear so more kids can get back on the field and enjoy the game they love."
The Youi Community Scrum delivers interactive programs focused on mental wellbeing, resilience and connection for communities recovering from significant weather events.
Over the past two years, the initiative has delivered programs across the NorthernRivers, Brisbane, Townsville, Melton and Gympie regions affected by major floods and severe storms.
The 2026 program kicked off at the Geelong Sharks with a State of Mind GAAME session and ran all the way through to Logan and the Gold Coast last weekend for a 7-8 Tag Event and State of Mind sessions.
Through the program, Youi has also provided funding and equipment to local schools and rugby league clubs, helping replace training gear damaged or lost during these events and ensuring young players can continue participating in the sport they love.
"We're proud to bring the Youi Community Scrum program back for a third year and expand its reach into more communities recovering from significant weather events," said Youi’s Chief Marketing Officer, Angela Greenwood,
"As an insurer, we see first-hand the lasting impact these events can have on local communities.
"Through our partnership with the NRL, we're able to support young people with programs that promote mental wellbeing, resilience and connection at a grassroots level.
"Rugby league clubs and schools play such an important role in bringing communities together, from local clubs and schools through to the millions of fans who support the game every week."
