Wavell State High School proved far too strong for St Brendan's College in the Queensland Schoolboy state final, running out to a 32-0 victory.
In the final staged at Totally Workwear Stadium, the local Brisbane team claimed the Phil Hall Cup by scoring six tries, with fullback Boston Nau scoring a double, while five-eighth Calvin Harris-Tavita converted four of those tries.
Signed to the Brisbane Broncos, Harris-Tavita and his halfback partner Charlie Webb steered the show, with the Wavell Warriors warming up in the first half to take a 10-0 lead into the break.
They went on with the job in the second, with some powerful defence forcing St Brendan's into errors, losing the ball when on the attack on their own line.
Speaking after the match, coach Phil Stanley said while he was proud of his side for claiming the state title for the first time since 2003, there was work to be done before the National Final in a fortnight.
“I think the most impressive thing for me is I think keeping them to nil," Stanley said.
“They're a very physical team.
“We knew we had to be physical today.
“Definitely still some areas to work on, bit disappointed with the discipline, bit of dropped ball.
“That's obviously frustrating, but something we have two weeks to work on.
“We need to be better when we play Endeavour."
Wavell fullback Boston Nau was awarded player of the match.
Next up, Wavell State High School will take on Endeavour Sports High School who defeated Illawarra Sports High School 24-16 in the New South Wales state final played at Campbelltown Stadium yesterday.
