Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) Executive Chairman Peter V’landys AM has today paid tribute to Paul Langmack, who has passed away.
Langmack played 314 matches for Canterbury (1983-1990), Western Suburbs (1991-1998) and Sydney Roosters (1999). He played 10 tour matches for Australia on the 1986 Kangaroo Tour, as well as four State of Origin games for NSW.
He played in winning grand final teams for Canterbury in 1984, 1985 and 1988 and in a losing Canterbury grand final team in 1986. He also coached South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2003-2004.
“Paul was a larger-than-life character,” Mr V’landys said. “You always knew ‘Langers’ was in the room. He was incredibly funny, hugely popular and passionate.
“As a player he was tough, but he had the skills as well. And he loved the game so much he just wanted to be involved in it, whether it be playing, coaching or, in recent years, working with the NSWRL in their community and mental health programs. He always wanted to help people.
“On behalf of the Commission, I extend our condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him.”
