When Team List Tuesday rolled around this week the Warriors didn't even bother looking at who their opponents had named, instead electing to focus on their own issues.
Heading into the Round 9 clash with the Sharks on Saturday night the Warriors have lost five of eight games and made more errors than any other team in the Telstra Premiership.
So before they can even start to think about leaving Remondis Stadium with the two points captain Simon Mannering says the team must address the glaring problems in their own backyard.
"I think it's a flow-on effect from that, so if we get that right we aren't forcing ourselves to do more work than we have do," Mannering of his side's concerning rate of mistakes in 2015.
"Hopefully our defence gets better, we aren't having those lapses and we can put ourselves in a position to get the result.
"With the weekend off for the team it was a good time to see what we are doing on the field compared to other teams, what they are doing well that's working for them and what we probably need to be better at.
"There are a few areas we need to focus on and improve. It's no secret that we are letting in far too many tries – our attack is fine but that's never really be a problem for this group, it's about stopping them rather than scoring them.
"We are doing a lot more defending than we should be, off the back of errors.
"I think we probably have a lot to focus on ourselves first and foremost… If we get the things we need to focus on right first then hopefully we don't have to worry about the opposition in that sense."
The Warriors' last four games have been dogged by poor second-half showings where they have gone missing on attack and lacked conviction in defence.
In those four matches the Warriors have conceded 66 points and scored just 30, which coach Andrew McFadden said comes down to how they are treating the ball.
"A bit of that in the second half is about what we are doing to ourselves in terms of energy and the errors we make," McFadden said.
"They are fundamental errors that are refined to a small group of individuals. They have got to take responsibility for that.
"I think we have got to address that as a team.
"Defence has got to be a big focus for us, we started the season not too bad defensively but we have definitely slipped in the last month.
"Offensively I am pretty comfortable with what we do and we are pretty high up there in terms of creating opportunities and scoring points. We are just leaking too many."
Meanwhile McFadden was confident of an improved effort from centre Konrad Hurrell, who returns to the NRL squad after a week down in the NSW Cup and a starring performance for Tonga in their loss to Samoa over the representative round.
"I am expecting him to reach a standard… he obviously has an awesome game in certain areas but defensively he really need to measure up," McFadden said.
