The South Sydney Rabbitohs and Canberra Raiders have both fought it out for the third draw of the weekend in Toyota Cup.
Kicking off in cool conditions at ANZ Stadium, the Rabbitohs were the first team to draw blood in the clash, crashing out wide through Kane Morgan in just the fifth minute of the match to setup a 4 – 0 lead.
The Raiders hit back in the form of Sam Williams and a double to Josh Dugan to race out to a 16 – 4 lead before a late try by Rabbitohs centre, Dylan Farrell, kept the home team in the match.
The Raiders started the second half in impressive form, with Josh Dugan collecting his third try in the 46th minute, and Jarrad Kennedy in the 52nd minute, to extend the lead to a comfortable and winnable lead of 18 points.
The large lead saw the Raiders step down a gear, with handling errors and poor plays slipping into their performance and handing the Rabbitohs a wealth of possession, which they were able to turn into four answered tries and race out to a 32 – 28 lead in the 72nd minute.
Desperate not to leave the match without any points, the Raiders hit back through winger Matt Ward in the 78th minute to level the scores, but were unable to convert.
The result sees the Raiders remain at fourth on the Toyota Cup ladder.
