Kenny Edwards released by Eels

The Parramatta Eels have officially released forward Kenny Edwards from his playing contract, effective immediately.

"Today Kenny Edwards, through his management company, requested a release from his NRL Playing Contract with Parramatta National Rugby League Club Pty Limited," the Eels said in a statement on Saturday.

"This release was granted by the Club effective immediately.

"We thank Kenny for his on field contribution during his time with our Club and we wish Kenny and his family all the very best in the future."

Earlier this week Edwards was stood down indefinitely by the Eels after he allegedly fled from police following a random roadside check last month.

Last year Edwards was suspended for seven games and fined $60,000 after pleading guilty to a charge of common assault.

He had been contracted through to the end of next season.
