High flyers Melbourne and Penrith were both given a scare in round 19 of the Telstra Premiership one week out from their heavyweight showdown at Suncorp Stadium.

The Storm racked up their 15th win on the trot but not before they were pushed to the limit by the Cowboys, while Ivan Cleary's Panthers overcame the loss of skipper Isaah Yeo early to grind out an 18-12 win over Brisbane.

Another of the premiership favourites, South Sydney, piled on 11 tries to demoralise the Warriors with big men Thomas Burgess and Jaydn Su'A both grabbing doubles and Canberra continued their revival with a 12-10 victory over the Eels in a physical clash to open the round.

The Titans upset the Dragons in Sunday's Gold Coast double-header before the Dogs and Sharks completed the round with an emphatic win to Cronulla.
