Gold Coast's finals hopes may be on life support this season but their future is bright with young halves Ash Taylor and AJ Brimson set to be front and centre of a return to the playoffs in 2019.

League legend Steve Renouf in this week's NRL Podcast predicts a bright future for the Garth Brennan-coached side.

Renouf casts his eye over a squad only to be strengthened by the addition of Shannon Boyd and Tyrone Peachey in 2019 and outlines what has impressed him most about Brimson's rise to starting five-eighth.

However, the former Broncos star predicts the Titans' finals hopes in 2018 will be snuffed out by Brisbane in the local derby on the Gold Coast on Sunday in a match where both sides will be affected by the loss of key players to the Holden State of Origin arena.

Renouf also explains why Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett will still not be pleased with the way his side is playing despite winning six of the last eight games and details why there is more improvement in the Broncos as they prepare for the run to the finals.

He also makes a case for why Maroons coach Kevin Walters will be rewarded for recalling Brisbane winger Corey Oates to the Queensland side and pinpoints a key area where the 23-year-old giant will make key inroads in game three at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday.
