The Teacher of the Year will have demonstrated exceptional support of rugby league through the provision of opportunities for students to be involved in practical activities within their school or district, as well as by engaging students through the integration of NRL's educational programs in the classroom.

2026 Teacher of the Year - Richard Thom

For 17 years, Richard Thom has used rugby league as a powerful tool to engage, educate and inspire young people. As a Gold Level NRL Schools Ambassador, he has created inclusive participation opportunities, integrated rugby league into classroom learning and developed strong pathways from school programs into community clubs.

His commitment has enriched the lives of countless students while helping grow the game throughout South Australia. 

NRL School Ambassador Program

Teachers registered in the NRL Schools Ambassadors program only can be nominated for this award.
